Jerimiah
Marques & the Blue Aces
Take
a selection of some of the finest blues musicians around
and then add a uniquely charismatic front man and you have
the truly amazing Jerimiah Marques & the Blue Aces,
the season’s openers.
Born in Guyana, Jerimiah was one of the many immigrants
who arrived in London in the 60s, having been sent for by
his father when he was 11. He soon started playing with
various groups around town and then, one afternoon in 1968
when walking past the Marquee Club, he happened to hear
visiting Chicago bluesman Muddy Waters and his band
rehearsing for their evening show.
Jerimiah
Marques & the Blue Aces are truly unique, insofar as
they present stunningly authentic performances of two of
the world's most exciting musical genres. The emphasis is
on deep Chicago Blues, which transport the listener back
to the ‘50s and the magic sounds of Howling Wolf and
Muddy Waters. The band will then switch to another
different groove, that of Roots Reggae, as exemplified by
Toots and the Maytals. The key to this great combination
is the charismatic Jerimiah Marques, a vocal master of
both musical styles and a performer who has to be seen
live in order to appreciate his electrifying talent.
