Sinnerboy, formed and led by Rory Gallagher enthusiast, Barry Barnes, will be performing at the Limelight Theatre on Friday 16th November. The band has been on the road for over 10 years now, paying tribute to Gallagher’s musical legacy, and have been instrumental in reviving his music since he passed away in 1995. Founding The Rorygig, which started in Manchester and has made its way to The Cavern in Liverpool, Barry Barnes and Sinnerboy have toured throughout the UK and Europe, and headlined Rory Gallagher tributes throughout Ireland.

Rory Gallagher, Irish rock legend and guitar hero, was a stellar musician and his legacy has lived on through tribute acts such as Sinnerboy. In a recent article written by the Sunday Times, Rory’s brother proudly remembered him;

“Outside of Jimi Hendrix and Peter Green no other rock guitarist has managed to convey such warmth, finesse and wild excitement. Yet like Hendrix and Green, Gallagher’s talent could not protect him from the storms of life.”

QPC

An icon of peace and goodwill during The Troubles, Rory was the only major musician to tour to Northern Ireland, refusing to take sides, and playing with a belief in the power of music. After leaving his band, Taste, Rory was approached by the Rolling Stones to be their guitarist, but an unsuccessful meeting, led to Rory walking away from them. At the time his albums were outselling the Rolling Stones. Shunning stardom, however, Rory’s talent often goes unremembered, despite many musical greats such as Slash (Guns n Roses), The Edge (U2) and Van Morrison hailing him as a musical inspiration His brother describes him as only ever being truly alive when on stage, and sadly like many of the great musical legends of his day Rory’s life became enslaved to drugs and alcohol, and in 1995 after a liver transplant Rory passed away.

Sinnerboy formed after Barry Barnes organised a tribute gig for Rory a year after his death. In a small pub in Manchester he gathered his friends together to remember this musical great, the next day there was a message on his answering machine from Donal Gallagher (Rory’s brother) asking Barry to get in touch, and he hasn’t looked back since. Sinnerboy’s gig at the Limelight will be one of their last, after over 10 years of touring as the biggest Rory Gallagher tribute in the world. Barry Barnes vows to continue paying tribute to his hero through his solo work, and with the birth of a new generation of Rory Gallagher followers (thanks to Youtube), he is sure that Rory’s memory will continue to burn bright in blues fans’ minds.

Sinnerboy guarantee a blistering performance that faithfully recaptures the sound and excitement of a live Rory gig. For young and old music fans alike, this is a gig that should not be missed. Playing with passion, the band have piously devoted themselves to Rory’s music, and their success is due not only to their dedication and awe for their hero’s music, but to the quality of Rory Gallagher’s powerful originals. Tickets cost £12 (£10 concessions) and can be bought via the Limelight Theatre box office on 01296 431 272 or online via www.qpc.org.

CAMBRIDGE ROCK FESTIVAL

Message from Dave Roberts the organiser of The Cambridge Rock Festival:

Thank you all so much, festival goers, bands, crew and volunteers for your support and help making the 2012 Cambridge Rock Festival one of the best we have experienced. The CRF in 2013 will be our 10th Anniversary and for it to be another great event, I must ask for your help - you can all help!

Please become a 'Champion for CRF' - that is to say use any opportunity you have to help us build the numbers attending both the gigs and the festival itself. If you go online using social media, music forums, band websites please spread the word i.e. link, re tweet, share etc. Offers of practical help through volunteering / flyering / putting up posters are also most welcome.

Band suggestions and improvements for 2013 via the forum pages or facebook are always welcome (if possible send links and contact info for bands).

The aim of the support gigs are to help finance the festival so please make every effort to attend and support the festival. I understand that we have supporters in all parts of the UK and indeed further afield so long distance travel may make this difficult, however the T shirt shop, joining Friends of CRF and simple donations are other long distance ways to contribute. If you are really enterprising and want to attend a gig by sharing a mini bus from one of the more distant parts of the UK contact us about getting a special deal on gig tickets to offset your travel costs.

You may still (throughout 2012) use the complimentary CRF's Spring Edition tickets to attend any of these events free, however it is best to exchange tickets beforehand by mail, as these tickets will not be valid for any other CRF festival, so don't miss out. As a CRF gig ticket buyer you may also apply for Gig Virgin tickets free for any friends who have not attended any CRF gigs before. More gigs to be announced for the new year so watch this space.
All offers are available at the discretion of the CRF box office and subject to CRF's Terms and Conditions as published on our website.
